Shower, Bathroom, Kitchen & Laundry Faucet Cleaning Hack

Does your shower, bathroom, kitchen or laundry faucet look grimy and not operating properly? Here is a simple hack for cleaning a shower head or faucet so it looks and operates like brand new again.

Over time, hard water minerals in tap water build up and clog the spray holes in shower heads. Fix this problem by simply soaking the heads or faucets overnight in vinegar (either white of apple cider)..

Important note to remember: always check your manual or manufacturers website to ensure that vinegar will not damage the finish.

All you need is;

  • Rubber bands/zip ties
  • Utility knife
  • Water jug
  • Clean rags
  • Plastic snap lock bags
  • Toothpicks
  • Vinegar

STEP 1

Grab a snap lock bag large enough to fit over the faucet/head. Pour some vinegar in the bag, enough to sit the faucet/head in it.

STEP 2

Tie the top of the bag around the top of the faucet/head. A zip with will be fast and keep the bag in place overnight however you will need to a utility knife to break the zip tie later. If you are concerned about damaging the finish of your shower head use rubber bands instead. If you wish to leave it overnight, ensure the tie will hold the bag in place with the spouts submerged in the vinegar.

STEP 3

Remove the bag. After allowing ample time for the vinegar to do its job, remove the bag and rinse the shower head thoroughly. You will be surprised just how much gunk will be floating in the bag! Use something pointy and slim like a tooth pick to pull out any remaining mineral build-up in the spray holes. Then rinse it off again with a water jug with clean water.
